Effect of Chlorination for the Effluent in Chunggye and Jungrang Sewage Treatment Plant

Abstract
In an attempt to measure the effect of chlorination for the wastewater effluent in Chunggye and Jungrang Sewage Treatment Plant, Intensive investigation of bacteriological contamination and chemical value of effluent was undertaken for the period two months (fifteen samples) from January 24, to March 6, 1980.
The results of study were summarized as follows:
1. Residual chlorine concentration for effective bactericidal must keep with more than 0.3mg/l after contacting with more than 10 minutes contact time.
2. At the average residual chlorine 0.8mg/t above the average 10 minutes contact time in chlorination. Total colifrom count on chlorinated Chunggye effluent decreased in 98.8% and on chlorinated Jungrang effluent 94-485. Also fecal streptococci count on chlorinated Chunggye effluent decreased in 98.2% and on chlorinated Junngrang effluent 98.9 %.
3. Average fecal coliform count on unchlorinated Chunggye effluent is 20/100ml and on unchlorinated JungrangYeffluent 30/100mI. As the average 0.8mg/l residual chlorine after the average 10 minutes is all 2/100m1 on each sample.
4. As the average 0.8mg/i residual chlorine after the average 10 minutes contact time, average BOD reduction was 46.5% and on Jungrang effluent 38.601. The correlation of coefficient between residual chlorine and BOD reduction showed significant at p<0. 01. But COD reduction was not statistically significance. Chunggye, Jungrang (t=2.93
